Renewable energy production in the Spanish electricity system closed 2017 at its lowest rate in the last eight years due to a minimal contribution from hydroelectric.
From January to June, renewable energies covered 50.7% of the generation on the Spanish peninsula and 73.4% was obtained using technologies that produce zero CO2 emissions.
In 2015, electricity consumption recovered a positive growth rate that had not been seen since 2010. Moreover, the Peninsula-Balearic electricity link has enabled 23% of the demand on the Balearic Islands to be covered.
Between January and September, renewable energy has covered 38.6% of the net production on the Spanish peninsula and 58.6% was obtained using technologies which produce zero CO2 emissions.
