On 17 and 18 November, the Informative Seminars on Safety in Forest Fire Fighting Operations were held in the Regional Administration School of Toledo. Said seminars are sponsored by Red Eléctrica de España and organised by the Pau Costa Foundation in collaboration with the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha. More than 300 people took part in these seminars which were also broadcast live through a webcast.
The Deputy General Manager of the Maintenance Division for Red Eléctrica, Eva Pagan, was present in the closing session and participated in the presentation ‘Aspects of institutional collaboration in the prevention and fight against forest fires’, where she highlighted the role and importance of the Company as sole transmission agent and operator of the national electricity system, and commented that Red Eléctrica has over 42,000 km of electricity lines, stressing that 4,000 km of them are in Castilla-La Mancha.
Eva Pagan stressed: "In Red Eléctrica we have close ties to the territory and are very aware of the matters related to the prevention of forest fires, therefore we signed an agreement to this effect with the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha in 2007 and it was renewed in 2013 in order to continue working on and improving action protocols".
"We want to do things right, minimising damage to the landscape, as well as risks for personnel working to extinguish forest fires near our electricity lines. Noteworthy, in this regard, is the effort that Red Eléctrica de España is making to establish coordinated action protocols", concluded the Deputy General Manager of the Maintenance Division.
