Red Eléctrica’s Marine Forest, an innovative project for the restoration of the posidonia meadows, was presented last February at Grids Meet Renewables conference in Brussels, as one of the best sustainability practices.

The event, which was organised by the Renewables Grid Initiative and Wind Europe, assembled the energy sector to analyse the scenario of transition towards a new model based on renewable energies, the significant impact it will have on society, industry, technology and the environment, and its relationship to the development of the grid and the flexibility of the electrical systems.

During the conference, there was also a presentation of the best practices in different areas to introduce new ideas and learn from the experience of the initiatives put forward, creating an open dialogue for exchanging knowledge.

Red Eléctrica’s Marine Forest was presented in this section as an example of an innovative practice that aims to regenerate the Posidonia oceanica meadow, reversing the degradation of this endemic underwater plant in the Mediterranean.

In 2017, the Renewables Grid Initiative rewarded this work with the ‘Good Practice of the Year’ award.
