The Regional Minister for Economic Development, Tourism and Employment of the Region of Murcia, Juan Hernández, and the Director General for Energy, Esther Marín, visited the head offices of Red Eléctrica, where they were received by the Chairman, José Folgado, the General Manager of System Operation Division, Miguel Duvison, and the Regional Delegate for the East, Maite Vela.
At the meeting various topics of interest were discussed regarding the electricity transmission planning 2015-2020, drafted by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, which provides the Murcia region with an infrastructure of lines and substations capable of responding not only to the natural growth of the population and industry, but also to future challenges that may arise.
In particular, reference was made to the construction project for the new Murcia 220 kV substation and the underground electricity line from the El Palmar 220 kV substation, which aims to supply electricity to the distribution network to cover demand and increase the reliability of the supply. The construction of these facilities is planned to be completed by the end of this year.
Red Eléctrica maintains a close-knit relationship with the regional administration, which favours a safe, efficient and sustainable electricity transmission grid in the Region of Murcia. Investments made in the regional transmission grid in the period 2011-2015 totalled 87.3 million euros and the investment foreseen for 2016 amounts to 41.6 million euros.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the Electricity Control Centre (CECOEL), where the General Manager of System Operation Division explained its operation and its role in the Spanish electricity system.
