Red Eléctrica’s Manager of Sustainability and Innovation Area, Daniel Pérez, delivered a speech this morning at the Corporate Social Responsibility Forum, which was organised in Seville by the ‘Andalucía Económica’ magazine on occasion of its 25th anniversary.
In his speech, he explained how corporate responsibility allows significant benefits to be obtained in areas associated to the improvement of business management and results, which in turn can be considered as a significant competitive advantage.
Mr. Pérez also said that Corporate Social Responsibility must be addressed as a transversal strategy related to the concept of shared value and circular economy that is slowly prevailing in business management. "CSR, he stressed, is an intrinsic part of business and therefore has to be aligned with the values of the company", he stated.
As for measuring the value of CSR, Mr. Pérez said that this is one of the main challenges today, but in all cases it would be a mistake to underestimate this aspect because of the current difficulty of quantifying CSR impact.
As indicated by Mr. Pérez, in 2015 the Company took an important step in this field with the creation of the position of CEO, an appointment that meets international best practices in corporate governance and fulfills the commitment of the Company to its shareholders to separate the positions of Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company.
Similarly, he highlighted the important step that has been taken in this field with the creation of a specific management area for sustainability and innovation, reporting directly to the Chairman.
