Red Eléctrica de España is to sponsor the Chair of Energy Economy and the Environment, at the University of Seville, through which it is intended to foster teaching and research in the field of technology related to intelligent self-generation of energy and electricity consumption so as to optimize management of the electricity supply system.
The economic impact of new advances in the electricity distribution sector, such as the use of electrical vehicles as distributed storage systems, also forms part of the research work to be undertaken by the new chair.
The Chair of Energy Economy and the Environment will join 34 other university chairs that have been established by the University of Seville since 2006, which makes it one of the leading universities in Spain in terms of contracts with companies, number of patents and the number of students involved in external academic internships in companies.
For Red Eléctrica, this collaboration with the University of Seville means, in the words of Miguel González, the company’s Manager of Southern Regional Office, “an opportunity to contribute to the economic development of the energy industry as well as sharing value with the academic world and extending the culture of sustainability.”
Miguel Ángel Castro, the Rector of the University, has emphasised that “This is an example of the University’s commitment to its relationship with the local community and its patronage. A corporate chair is an umbrella institution that brings together for a common objective a range of different activities conducted jointly between the sponsoring company and the University.”
