Red Eléctrica de España sponsors the awards of the Asociación Española para la Economía Energética (AEEE)  - Spanish Association for Energy Economics -  for young researchers, which aims to promote the participation of young researchers affiliated with the AEEE in its Annual Congress to support the dissemination of their research and access to the latest news in the sector.

The Special Award, to the article with higher quality and relevance in the field of Energy Economics was awarded to Pablo Pintos, a researcher at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, who presented his work: "An integrated model for the analysis of the EU ETS ".

Cristina Sarasa, assistant professor at the University of Zaragoza and Fernando de Llano, acting professor at the University of La Coruña, received grants for participation in the Annual Congress for their “Could households’ small actions make a difference in reducing emissions? A CGE analysis for Spain” and “The European challenge for 2050: Energy, security, efficiency and sustainability”, respectively.

The edition of this year's Annual Meeting of the AEEE, which brings together members of the Spanish academia and professional community in the field of energy economics, was held at the Instituto Superior de Ingeniería of Lisbon, in collaboration with the University of Aveiro and the newly established Portuguese Association for Energy Economics.

The main theme of this edition was the integration of European and Iberian energy systems in particular. The plenary and parallel sessions addressed various issues including energy policy and climate change, CO2 markets, market regulation and renewable energy.
