Over thirty classic and vintage boats competed against each other in the ‘Illas Atlánticas’ Regatta

Red Eléctrica sponsors this initiative for the cultural, touristic and local development of the Galician coast, in which former King Juan Carlos I took part.

During the weekend of 20 and 21 August, the 9th ‘Illas Atlánticas – Red Eléctrica de España Regatta’ for classic and vintage boats was held in the coastal waters of the Illas Atlánticas National Park. The regatta, sponsored for the fourth consecutive year by Red Eléctrica and organised by the San Vicente do Mar Yacht Club in O Grove (Pontevedra), seeks to develop the tourism, cultural and leisure sector in Galicia as well as promote water sports.

Former King Juan Carlos I attended the ninth edition of this regatta and also took part as skipper of one of the boats. The race had the participation of crews of more than thirty classic and vintage boats. This year, the regatta had significant international presence and public attendance was very significant; helping promote the area of ​​O Grove.

The boat ‘Pingüino Uno’ was the winner in the Sálvora category of the 9th ‘Illas Atlánticas-Red Eléctrica de España Regatta’, while the ‘Gallant’, skippered by former King Juan Carlos I, was leader in the 6M category. Meanwhile, in the Ons class, the ‘Artako’, last year’s winner, was again this year the winning boat; while the ‘A Meca’ was the winner of the Cies class.

Former King Juan Carlos I, the Vice President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda; the Regional Minister for Economy and Industry, Francisco Conde, and Red Eléctrica’s Regional Delegate in Galicia, Carlos González, presented the awards to the crews of the winning boats in this edition.
