A total of 8,373 secondary students have participated in 18 competitions of the "entreREDes" game, organised by Red Eléctrica in the last two years in collaboration with educational and cultural entities and institutions from 10 autonomous communities.
The purpose of this initiative, which targets to students in 2nd-, 3rd-, and 4th- year of secondary school (ESO), is to illustrate how the electricity system works and to raise awareness among younger people about the importance of the rational use of energy, while reviewing curricular contents. The game also helps explain the role of Red Eléctrica in the Spanish electricity system and improve initial opinions about electrical infrastructures.
With "entreREDes," created by Red Eléctrica in 2015, players travel the country along the main power lines and substations of the electricity transmission grid while answering questions in six different subjects (Physics and Chemistry, Geography and History, Language and Literature, Mathematics, leisure and the electricity sector).
With more than 8,500 questions and three playing modes, "entreREDes" is an effective educational resource for teachers in the classes, an attractive and enjoyable revision tool for students to use at home, and a way of having fun way to share with family and friends.
Over the past two years, scholastic competitions have been held at schools in Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, La Rioja, and in the city of La Eliana, in Valencia, as well as at scientific and informative events throughout Spain.
At the close of 2017, surveys conducted of participants revealed that students considered "entreREDes" a very useful and enjoyable tool with which to review the content taught in the classroom while learning about how the electricity system works. In addition, they observed that the dynamics of the game and the difficulty of the questions are tailored to the needs and requirements of students at different academic levels.
In 2018, regional competitions will continue. A second edition will be held in La Rioja, Castilla-La Mancha, and Castilla y León, and it will debut in the Community of Madrid, Navarra, Tenerife, Ibiza and Formentera.
The "entreREDes" game is available on the Red Eléctrica website and can be downloaded to computers or mobile devices. Once the file has been downloaded, an internet connection is not required.
