First meeting of the Spain’s Climate Change Cluster

Red Eléctrica de España and another 35 large companies listed on the Ibex 35, subsidiaries of multinational or family-run businesses, have joined the Forética Climate Change Cluster, sole representative in Spain of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The group therefore has a majority representation from sectors such as finance, insurance, food, distribution or energy.

The group has presented the agenda for 2016 to provide more in-depth detail regarding the concept, implementation and implications of carbon pricing; it will analyse the link between biodiversity and climate change; it will dialogue with key opinion leaders at both institutional and business level in this field, and will promote education on climate change in addition to the visibility of trends and knowledge.

The first part of the meeting is focused on communicating European trends in climate change, for which it will have the noteworthy presence of the Director General for the Environment of the European Commission, Daniel Calleja, and the Director General of the Spanish Climate Change Office, Valvanera Ulargui.

The Climate Change Cluster seeks to bring into the Spanish context the major global trends and talks on climate change from a business perspective; contribute to the generation of knowledge; collaborate with government administrations and opinion leaders, and develop a leading position as the Spanish point of reference regarding climate change matters.
