Red Eléctrica’s delegate in Navarra, Antonio González Urquijo, yesterday welcomed 48 new engineers studying for the Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, and explained to them the function of the Muruarte electricity substation and the importance of this facility which connects the node of the capital of Navarra, Pamplona, with the 400 kilovolt (kV) line from Castejón.

After a tour of the facilities, they were given the opportunity to learn more about the main operating processes undertaken at the substation, as well as its contribution to the reliability, security and quality of the electricity supply in the region.

The Muruarte substation is one of Red Eléctrica’s main facilities in the region of Navarra. It consists of two switchyards: one 400 kV and another of 220 kV. In addition to supporting the electric utilities distribution network in the area of Pamplona, this substation enables renewable generation existing in the area, particularly wind energy, to be connected to the transmission grid for its evacuation.

This visit, which also had the participation of three professors from the Master’s Degree course, is part of the collaboration agreement that Red Eléctrica has with the University of Navarra, through which training activities related to the electricity system operation and the transmission of electricity are conducted.
