The Miguel Hernández University has hosted at its campus in Elche the XI edition of the Biodiversity Week held from 25 to 28 April, an event that has had the participation, for the fourth consecutive year, of Red Eléctrica de España under the agreement on biodiversity matters signed with the Regional Government of Valencia.
During these days, more than one hundred researchers and naturalists have collected data from some unique biodiversity areas in the municipality of Elche, such as the Elche reservoir, the Barbasena ravine, the natural park ‘El Hondo’ and the natural space of ‘El Clot de Galvany’, among others.
The data collected will allow the current fauna and flora database of the municipality to be increased and also update the information available in order to enrich the Biodiversity Data Bank of Valencia.
The Red Eléctrica’s Regional Delegate in Valencia, Maite Vela; the Mayor of Elche, Carlos González and the territorial director of Environment for the Regional Government of Valencia, Carmen Catalá, attended the closing day, which served to highlight the positive outcome of the data collected during the four days the meeting lasted.
