Red Eléctrica invested 5.2 million euros in the 220 kV Cañuelo substation, a facility commissioned in 2015 to support demand from Campo de Gibraltar.

This week, the Chairman of Red Eléctrica, José Folgado, visited the Cañuelo substation in the town of Los Barrios (Cadiz), a facility that will serve to reinforce the power supply of the port of Algeciras once construction on the Cañuelo-Pinar del Rey line is complete. Completion is scheduled for 2018.
Folgado was accompanied by the General Director of Industry, Energy, and Mines for the regional government of Andalusia, Natalia González; the Deputy Government Representative from Cadiz, Agustín Muñoz; and the Mayors of Los Barrios, San Roque, Algeciras, and Tarifa, who agreed to reaffirm the value of the new facility for the economic benefit of the port of Algeciras and the entire Campo de Gibraltar region.
Also during the act, Eva Pagán, General Manager of the Transport Division for Red Eléctrica de España, signed two collaboration agreements between the Company and the town councils of Los Barrios and San Roque, to improve the sports facilities in both municipalities.
The Chairman of Red Eléctrica also held a meeting with representatives from the Campo de Gibraltar Association of Major Industries (Asociación de Grandes Industrias) during which he stressed the need and importance of promoting this key development hub for the south of Spain.
