Francisco Javier Iglesias was the fastest in the ‘Gran Fondo de Ézaro’ cycling event on Sunday in which about 1,200 cyclists took part on the roads of the Costa da Morte, among the participating cyclist was the winner of the Tour de France in 2006, Óscar Pereiro, and Joseba Beloki who was on the podium in three consecutive editions of the Tour de France.

The Mayor of Dumbría (La Coruña), José Manuel Pequeño, and the regional delegate for Red Eléctrica de España, Carlos González Patiño, participated in the traditional "ribbon cutting" ceremony to begin this spectacular event, which has been sponsored by Red Eléctrica de España for the second year consecutive.

The 1,200 participating riders had to climb a concrete road with a gradient of more than 25% to reach the Ézaro lookout point; a road that made this ascent even harder and during which many participants had to dismount in order to reach the summit.

The Ézaro lookout point and its difficult climb will again be one of the highlights of the next edition of the Tour of Spain cycling event and which will offer sports fans and public in general a spectacular finish for the stage in late August.
